What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
By Dr. Mo Mommersteeg
A chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is a therapeutic procedure commonly performed by chiropractors. It involves applying controlled, sudden force to specific joints in the spine or peripheral parts of the body to improve spinal alignment, improve range of motion, restore normal function and reduce associated pain. Our Chiropractors at Momentum Health & Chiro can use a range of different adjusting techniques, in order to accurately and comfortably treat you and your injury or condition. We commonly use techniques known as high velocity- low amplitude diversified manipulation, drop piece, Arthrostim, Activator and joint mobilisations.
Here are some potential benefits of chiropractic adjustments:
Pain relief: Chiropractic adjustments are often sought for their potential to alleviate musculoskeletal pain, particularly in the back, neck, and joints. By realigning the spine and improving joint mobility, adjustments can reduce pain and discomfort associated with conditions like lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, and other associated joint pain.
Improved joint mobility and flexibility: Restrictions in the joints can limit range of motion and flexibility. Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore proper movement and function to the affected joints, allowing for improved mobility, flexibility, and overall physical performance.
Spinal realignment: Chiropractors focus on the alignment of the spine (when it is needed) because it plays a crucial role in the body's overall health and well-being. Our focus at Momentum, is to improve your movement, to improve performance and avoid injury.
Enhanced nervous system function: The nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, controls and coordinates all bodily functions. While promoting improve joint and spinal function, we strive to improve the performance of our nervous system. No joint restrictions and improved movement, means more blood flow throughout the body, better nerve function, improved muscle output and performance. This continues to create a positive feedback loop, for improved overall health!
Complementary treatment for certain conditions: Chiropractic care can be used as a complementary therapy alongside other medical treatments for various conditions. It is often sought for musculoskeletal issues, but some people also find it helpful for managing certain conditions. Our Chiropractors understand their role and position in your health care journey! We do not strive to be the only health professional that will fix everything. We stress the importance of working with other health professionals to achieve the best outcome for your whole health!
Always remember, one size does not fit all! Our Chiropractors significantly stress the importance of identifying the root cause of your injury, pain or condition in order to establish a treatment plan specific to YOU! We require every new patient to have a 60- minute Initial Appointment, so we can assess your health history, perform a physical examination, and provide individualized recommendations based on your needs. This will most likely incorporate chiropractic adjustments, along with many other treatment modalities!
It is important to consult with a qualified chiropractor or healthcare professional to determine if chiropractic adjustments are appropriate for your specific condition.
